Ethnic Studies, Disability, and Mathematical Practices: Collaboratively Crafting IEP Math Goals That Are Effective, Equitable, and Empowering for Every Student
Saturday October 26, 2024 10:30am - 12:00pm PDT
Access to high quality math education for students with disabilities is a social and racial justice issue. In this workshop math educators and special education teachers will use an Ethnic Studies lens to talk through and apply using the Mathematical Practices. They will create IEP goals that go beyond skills and accuracy measurements to supporting critical mathematical analysis and thinking for students. This workshop creates space for educators to collaborate for the success and empowerment of their shared students.

Saturday October 26, 2024 1:00pm - 2:30pm PDT
This workshop will be an in depth exploration of my Letters to a Teacher Unit. In this unit, students encounter a variety of rigorous sources on the topic of education and then engage in an authentic correspondence with a future teacher to offer their perspectives on what kind of teachers are needed in today’s schools. Participants will hear from Lincoln High School and graduate students who recently participated in the unit and receive access to resources.
