The Leaders of Now
Saturday October 26, 2024 10:30am - 12:00pm PDT
237
The 2023–2024 Young Leaders in Action students from 11 high schools created The Leaders of Now, a film and curriculum meant to inspire youth to recognize their leadership capacity by highlighting local and global young activists at the forefront of social change. The film is part one of a curriculum developed for teachers about the youth leaders; part two is an activity that goes into depth about identities, issues, and strategies of the leaders and can be used as a segue into teaching about any social movement with a focus of youth activists.

Perspective Storytelling as a Justice-Centered Science Teaching Practice
Saturday October 26, 2024 1:00pm - 2:30pm PDT
237
Science education is a critical site for remediating human-nature relations toward more just futures. However, much of contemporary science curricula reinforces humans as apart from, rather than part of the natural world. We will introduce an interactive model for justice-centered ambitious science teaching that fosters a part of framing. This lesson is available on the IslandWood Learn site — an open-source curriculum archive. We have led this activity with K-12 students, teachers, and adult learners.
